The Walmart of Michigan.
The guy who started it was Fred Meijer. Not to be confused with Fred Meyer, of course.
Oh no, this Fred Meijer of Michigan was nothing like Fred Meyer of Oregon.
Fred Meijer opened up a chain of hypermarket/retail stores, and what did Fred Meyer do??
Oh, wait....

Dude, Meijer is totally different than Walmart! Meijer was a regular guy that started off with one little (much like Sam Walton of Walmart), and Meijer used to pay pretty decent wages. They can only pay around minimum wage now because they need to keep up with competition. Ummm, maybe they are kinda like Walmart?
So, as an ex-employee of the Meijer corporation I feel that I need to pipe in about this post.
We were properly trained on how to refer to Meijer Stores. It is not Meijer's. It is Meijer. You shop at Meijer. It is not proper to refer to it as "shopping at Meijer's". "I am shopping at Meijer today".
You wouldn't say "I am going to shop at Walmart's today".
Have to get it right :)
